Dear Deanna,
Thank you for your application to the Eclipse Ambassadors off the Path program. We are pleased to inform you that you have qualified to become an Eclipse Ambassador partner. Welcome to a supportive community of eclipse enthusiasts - we're glad you're here!
What is an Eclipse Ambassador?
Eclipse Ambassadors is a new NASA-funded program that pairs undergraduate students and amateur astronomers to partner with NASA, provide solar viewing glasses, and share eclipse knowledge with underserved communities off the central paths. Through training, workshops, and personal communications, Eclipse Ambassador partnerships will grow together, learning new tools and techniques for explaining eclipses and engaging with the public.
Eclipse Ambassadors will:
Partner with an undergraduate/amateur astronomer
Take a 3-week online course (~12 hours coursework)
Engage their communities with eclipse resources by reaching 200+ people, with at least half of those from underserved communities
So what's the plan?
Originally, my plan was to host an eclipse party at my office that I would be able to stream to the rest of the company. However, the total eclipse will be on April 8, 2024, and I recently learned my contract at work isn't going to be renewed and will expire in December. My next steps are to reach out to the Liberty Hill Public Library and see if they'd like to host an eclipse event and allow me to educate our community about eclipses.
